- By the early 1970’s the figure had tripled.
- Plastic bags were introduced into circulation in 1977.
- By 1988 the United States produced approximately 50 billion pounds of plastic.
- Plastic makes up 80% of the volume of litter on land and 90% of floating litter in our oceans.
- A million plastic bags are used every minute worldwide. That’s over 500 billion bags each year polluting our planet.
- The U.S. uses 100 billion plastic bags annually, consuming about 12 million barrels of oil, wasting our resources.
- 53% of plastic shopping bags are distributed into circulation via supermarkets and grocery stores and only 1% of plastic bags are actually recycled.
- Plastic bags kill over 100,000 birds, whales, seals and turtles every year.
- Plastic Bags are not biodegradable and never fully decompose. They eventually break down into tiny toxic bits that pollute our planet and kill our wildlife.
